Industry experts have been talking about the drain of resources in the Financial Planning profession for at least four years now, and the numbers predicted are sobering:

  • In a blog from Michael Kitces: Industry guru Mark Tibergien estimates that as many as two-thirds of all financial advisors may look to exit in the next 10 years, requiring more than 200,000 new planners to enter the industry just to keep the total number of practitioners even.
  • Only 3,000 CFP® professionals are added each year; many of them are experienced advisors who have decided to add their CFP certification later in their career

And that was in 2012. With the more recent increase of digital tools for advisors in demand by their clients, and the change in Fiduciary Standards implemented by the Department of Labor, these numbers will also likely rise.

So, everyone is looking to our younger-generation advisors to take the baton and run with it, and FPANJ is fostering a group that will help enhance collaboration and networking with our “NextGen” advisors, generally considered anyone in the age range of 36 years and under.

Our Kickoff Networking Social is Thursday, June 9th at 54 Main Bar & Grill in Madison, NJ. Take the initiative and join us!! If you’re not in that demographic, please share it with a bright, younger advisor who will benefit from the networking, but also have a lot to offer this vital group.
