    Gene is the founder and principal of McGovern Financial Advisors, LLC, a fee-only and advice-only financial planning firm that specializes in comprehensive retirement planning.  A former CEO, Gene enjoyed a 30-year career in professional law and tax publishing before launching his own firm, including a stint as vice president of tax and accounting publishing at CCH.  Gene holds a B.A. in English from Yale University and an MBA in Taxation from New York University.  He also serves as an adjunct faculty member in the financial planning certificate program at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he has taught the  retirement planning, investment planning, estate planning, insurance planning, and financial plan development (capstone) courses.

Bill LaChance is an independent financial advisor. Bill's firm offers a unique flat fee program that combines financial planning, investment management, tax planning and tax preparation. Prior to launching his financial planning practice, Bill spent twenty two years in corporate finance in the retail industry and before that was a CPA with a large accounting firm. Bill has a B.S. in Accounting from Bryant University and an MBA in Finance from Indiana University. Bill is a Certified Financial Planner as well as an Enrolled Agent authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS.


Program Description: 
This presentation will review tax planning strategies that arise for clients in the transition period between full time work and 70 1/2 when required minimum distributions must begin. Included in the discussion will be strategies that are designed to take advantage of the shift in marginal tax rates during this period as well as income thresholds to consider related to the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, NJ Retirement Income Exclusion, and Social Security Income exclusion.
