Program Description:
Borrowing against the cash value of life insurance policies has been an important advantage for clients who own permanent, cash value life insurance policies. While most policy loans are requested by policy owners to meet a specific need, some policy loans are the unintended consequence of a separate policy owner action, such as the non-payment of scheduled premiums for a whole life policy that has an Automatic Premium Loan feature. Whether intended or not, large policy loans can result in borrowed-upon policies becoming in danger of lapse…with possible taxable ramifications to the client. This one-hour program will investigate how a well-designed policy exchange can accommodate policy loans and improve the client’s position with a strategy that can prevent immediate policy lapse and taxation.
